Bear Mountain Trail

Happy first day of Fall everyone! I’m still in shock that summer is over, but as the misty gray mornings and rainy days settle back on Portland (not to mention Halloween decorations hitting the shelves), I’m finally starting to get excited about the seasons changing.

Although admittedly, I don’t feel quite ready to say goodbye to my beloved sunshine for the year, there are some aspects of the autumn I adore. I’ve listed a few things I’m looking forward to below, in the hopes of taking full advantage of the chillier, shorter days to come.

  • Reading – Nothing beats getting lost in a good book on a rainy day, and I have a growing book list I’m excited to start chipping away at this fall. Currently Reading: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
  • Crafting – Once the weather starts cooling off, I start looking for hobbies that will entertain me through the winter months. My favorite recently has been knitting. I still only know how to knit scarves, but I find it relaxing and rewarding to make something by hand.
  • Autumn Style – Every year I crave the first day I can comfortably wear my favorite sweater, or that adorable new coat I bought 3 months ago.
  • Sweet Treats Galore – Pumpkin flavored everything and Halloween candy. Need I say more?

Whether you’re looking forward to fall or are already mourning summer, be sure to fully take in and savor the transition. It is such a beautiful time of year, with treats for every sense. See the vibrant oranges, reds and yellows of the trees, smell the hot chocolate, and hear the sound of crunching leaves under foot.

The changing season marks a new beginning, you can feel it everywhere. There’s something so fresh, cleansing, and charged in a cool, crisp breath of autumnal air.

What are you going to do to make sure and savor this fall?
